Spring has finally settled in to stay. Temperatures are almost summer-like, but without the accompanying humidity. In other words, a perfect day to eschew chores and take a day trip instead. One member of the family was particularly excited to see the travel tote being packed.
Our first destination was Burgruine Kollmitz, to the northwest of Vienna and not too far from the Czech border.
The river Thaya below the castle.
Remnants of the castle chapel.
En route home and nearby to Kollmitz is Stift Altenburg, a Baroque abbey dating to the 12th century. Given that we were dressed for hiking and had Clayton Theodore with us, our visited was limited to exploring the gardens and courtyards rather than touring the interior rooms…
…and enjoying a brief tour of the church while the tired hound rested.
