Two Sundays ago Clayton Theodore reminded us that he had not explored castle ruins in over a month, and wondered if we were truly worthy of serving as his caregivers!  We remedied his concern with an outing to nearby Hainburg an der Donau, a rather well-preserved walled city about 45 minutes from the house, and near the border with Slovakia.
Town gates and everything. Toward Hungary or toward Vienna–how shall we begin our climb?
The walk up is moderate, with lovely views and plenty of spring grass for our Foxhound to nosh.

Exploring the ruins is worth the minimal effort to reach the peak.

Back down from our exploration, our packed picnic awaited us. Muffuletta sandwiches for the bi-peds; and the traditional peanut butter toast for the Spoiled Hound. Clayton Theodore approved of the afternoon.
